We went out to Lake Liganore for the 4th this year, where Heather and Perry took us out on a jaunt around the lake on their boat. There was, however, a new element added to the festivities this year: a paddle board!
Now I have never personally been in a paddle board and neither has Meghan. Perry had warned me that his previous guests had difficulty balancing on it. That said, Meghan ambitiously jumped on and wasted no time paddling around. When it was my turn, Perry advised that the balance gets better when you get some speed. Sure enough, I got on and immediately could feel my shaky balance. The micro adjustments you make on solid ground that you don’t even process are magnified on the board, leading to readjustments that shift your balance. In a way, you are fighting your own natural course correction as it’s actually over correcting as if you were on solid ground.
Once I got the oar in the water, I could feel the speed creating a neutralization in the balancing. It’s similar to a bicycle in that regard. After I got my time in, Meghan had jumped back on and paddled all the way back to Heather and Perry’s doc.
