I love this time of year, the changing of the leaves and the crisp air. Pumpkins, apple flavored everything. Living in an area with four seasons gives you rewards all the way through the year. We have a special anniversary approaching, our 20 year is right around the corner.
Well, this year I did something I’ve never done – ride a horse! We did the Western Trails excursion and it was a blast. I quickly got over my childhood fear of getting kicked in the head and let the horse do the walking. More important, my daughter got a chance to bond with her kindred horse spirits! I had originally intended to go white water rafting, but the resort closed down ASCII this year. I heard a roomer that county legal squabbles were the culprit. We got to spend some time at the Spruce Forest Artisan Village, another first. …
Between work, the ice and snow storms, I’ve been too busy to notice that the calendar flipped over to March! Two months down in 2021 and I barely felt it. It’s been a crazy winter, but we made the most of it. I took Meghan to a nearby hill which feels more like a mini mountain. Makes for a great sled ride but that march back uphill will wear you down quick! What seems like a million years ago, I was sitting in the FSU student union reading Sports Illustrated wondering how the Seminoles were going to do that year. As it turns out, we did all right. But that photographer captured young me in my youth, sporting my blacktops and backwards ballcap, obsessing over football. Those were much happier times – or so I thought. The family had a great day at Sharp’s Farm which is in western Howard County. We picked some pumpkins from the patch ( Sadly no Great Pumpkin sightings). The farm did a cool “bring your dog” day, so our doggie got to frolic with other dogs. I think, however, my daughter got more out of it as she pet every single dog she saw. Speaking of dogs, ours jumped off of the hayride and ran into one of the pumpkin patches. I had to jump off and chase her down, luckily she settled down right away and let me catch …
I tell you something, this damn dog thinks she runs the house. Barking, scratching, acting all doggy. Who the hell does she think she is? A gift for my daughter, who feeds her? ME! Who walks her? ME! Who plays with her ? ME! I kind of predicted this outcome when the wife “made an executive decision” despite my objections on buying the dog. Now I’m stuck with this furry friend that eats, poops and causes general mayhem. And by mayhem, I mean eating furniture, eating the house (molding mostly), eating various toys, and by my own estimate, at least …
So after limping my way through a month of bad hikes and terrible runs, I went to an podiatrist and confirmed my fear – I jacked up my foot. Or as they call it in the medical world, Plantars Fasciitis. The plantar fascia is a tendon on the bottom of the foot that helps with the movement. ANd just like the Achilles on the other side of the heel, a lot of punishment to that area will cause the tendon to get stressed and fray – which can cause pain and inflammation.
